Meet Christian, a Year 12 Student at Lake Joondalup Baptist College who received 2nd place receiving Silver Medal in the VETIS WALL & FLOOR TILING competition through The WorldSkills Australia Vocational Education and Training in Schools (VETiS) program.
The VETiS program is a series of work-simulated projects based on industry standard frameworks which are designed and administered by practising teachers and industry professionals.
To be eligible to compete at a National Championships in a VETiS category, you must be enrolled in a VET course within secondary school the year of the competition. Over the last 2 years Christian has been studying a Certificate II in Building and Construction at North Metro TAFE.
The National Championships is Australia’s biggest vocational education and excellence competition. Over three days at Skills Show Australia, selected Regional competitors are flown from around the country to showcase and benchmark their skills on the national stage competing against their industry peers from around the country.
The Wall & Floor Tiling VETiS Competitions test the common skills for the Construction industry, as well as the specialist field of work, Wall and Floor Tiling.
The WorldSkills Australia VETiS Wall & Floor Tiling Competitions begin at a grass roots level in one of 42 Australian regions. They test the skills and knowledge of 4000+ apprentices, trainees and students, who have the opportunity to win gold, silver and bronze medals and gain the chance to go on to compete at a national level.
Christian’s journey serves as a reminder that passion, hard work, and a drive to excel can lead to endless possibilities. I have no doubt that he’ll continue to make a significant impact in the building and construction field.
