Aspire
It’s been a busy term for the Aspire students who have participated in a number of academic competitions and withdrawal programs with great success!
Year 5-6 STEM Challenge – LJ’s Arcade
It was a pleasure to work with 18 budding STEM prodigies on the LJ’s Arcade STEM challenge this term. The challenge, based on the Cain’s Arcade story, asked these young people to plan for, design, and build functional arcade games out of cardboard. These students produced fantastic games including a basketball game, a claw machine, a skee-ball game, and a mini golf course. Well done to these impressive STEM students!
UN Voice
Two of our outstanding young public speakers took to the stage to speak about issues that impact young people. Year 8 student, Marisa, spoke of solutions to help young people feel more of a sense of community and inclusion in Western Australia and Year 9 student, Lily, spoke about solutions to help make mental health facilities more widely accessible to young people. Both students spoke compellingly in this competition and received fantastic feedback from the judges for their problem solving and public speaking skills. We are very impressed by Marisa who was invited to the WA State Grand Final to compete against some of the greatest young public speakers in our state. Congratulations, Marisa and Lily!
Middle School Ethics Olympiad
This term, 15 LJBC students from Years 7-9 competed in the Middle School Ethics Olympiad, a competition where students discuss the ethics behind a range of case studies.
Our teams saw fantastic results this year with the Year 7 team scoring an honorable mention, one of our year 9 teams scoring an honourable mention and 5th place overall, and the other year 9 team scoring an honourable mention and 6th place overall. We are so proud of these wonderful students.
