Cumberland Corner

I would like to welcome all our Cumberland families, new and old. Term 1 of 2019 is well underway and it has been as busy as ever. In addition to the families of our Year 7 students, a warm welcome is extended to Ruby Haycraft, Paula Anamourlis and Ian Llusala.

Before the academic year commenced, I had the privilege of joining our Cumberland Student Councillors on their induction day at the Aloha Surfhouse. It was an outstanding day and I am excited to have such a great team to work with. I look forward to meeting with them throughout the year and hearing their ideas and plans for Cumberland.

It is my privilege to introduce the Cumberland 2019 Student Council.

Head Boy: Todd Rennix

House Captains: Ruben Joubert & Merize le Roux

Music Captain: Catherine Nelson

Year 11: Caitlin Mathews Markey & Matilda Milne

Year 10: Dylan Morrison & Emma Sabatini

Year 9: Divan Joubert & Venetia Edwards

Year 8: Harry Dean & Sarah-Ann Keresztley

Our Year 7 students had a great start to the year. Nervousness has gradually been replaced with smiling faces as they settle into Secondary School. The House Centre was buzzing with activity when the Year 7 students visited us during their scavenger hunt on day 1. I also had the privilege of getting to know our new “Cumberlandians” at the Year 7 Camp at Serpentine. We were blessed with great weather and the students were very enthusiastic and fully committed to all the activities.

We had an exciting day at the swimming carnival and were strong contenders for the Swimming trophy. Cumberland has some very talented swimmers in the ranks and I am grateful to all those who gave their best in the many events.

I would like to acknowledge Rachel in Year 7 who was awarded a title of National

Champion for Choreography and Choreography Duo at the Follow Your Dreams National Championship Dance Competition in Melbourne in early January. Well done Rachel!
I wish you all a very successful 2019!
