Author in Residence - Mark Greenwood

Author in Residence week provides our students with a framework upon which to develop writing principles, narrative techniques, and the aesthetics of storytelling. During weeks 3 and 4 we were joined by West Australian author, Mark Greenwood.  Mark writes books that explore little known slices of history from the intersection of personal experiences.

During classroom workshop sessions, he aligned student-centred activities to the themes and texts currently being studied in class.  Valuable lessons were learned when addressing elements such as plot, tone, and dialogue. Mark reiterated the value of picture books and visual images that speak to readers. His workshops taught us that, like music, language has resonance - a presence, evoked by words, that conjure up images, memories, and emotions.

Mark’s ‘top tips’ are - read with a writer’s eye, remain passionate, curious, determined and embrace the solitude of literature.
