VET Music Showcase

On Wednesday 9 September, the Year 11 and 12 VET Music students hosted the annual VET Music Showcase in the College Auditorium. The event was organised by the students as an opportunity to perform to family, friends and staff as well as complete units of competency as part of their Certificate of Music Industry course. The night was a great success, highlighting the skills the students have developed over the past year, entertaining the crowd with original songs and covers of some old classics.

The stage was set during the day with help from Rob Orlowsky, Long Nguyen and Adrian Vermeulen, the fantastic ICT team who rigged the lights, smoke machine and sound system to be the perfect setting for our performers. As the evening began and the crowd made their way to their seats, we were introduced to our first band of the evening, Breaking the Chains, led by front man Zac (Y12). This alternate rock group set the tone for the night.

As the evening continued, the audience were treated to a variety of music genres including electronic, folk-pop, punk and pub rock. Adrian (Y12) debuted two original pieces, showcasing his stage presence and confidence behind the microphone and guitar. Music Captain, Hollie (Y12), let loose on the drum kit during her group’s performance of ‘Clocks’ by Coldplay.

The night ended with Year 11 group, Sundown, performing songs from Pink Floyd, Jimi Hendrix and Led Zeppelin. Santiago (Y11) impressed the crowd with his incredible guitar technique and Joseph (Y11) delivered a 'gut-busting' drum solo that closed the night off. Brilliant work by all of the students who performed on the night and a warm thank you to everyone in attendance for making the night special.
