News
The Music Department would like to extend massive congratulations to Caitlin Mathews-Markey (Year 12 in 2020). She has been invited to audition for Performing Arts Perspectives, the showcase event that demonstrates the best performance work of all students in 2020. What an honour and a tribute to Caitlin’s hard work and amazing guitar skills!
Welcome
We welcome Mr Troaca to Secondary Music. He will be teaching Years 7-9 as well as running the new Music Production Studio Course we are running. Mr Troaca will also be taking the premiere ‘electronic band’.
Initiatives
- Production Studio Course
This class runs before school for one hour a week on a Friday morning. It is available for ten students only and is open to students in Years 9-11. If you are interested in recording, mixing and using the studio gear, then this is for you. There will be an interview process upon application for this course. There is a new and improved layout in Room 10 and the recording studio is coming along nicely. The updated look should be completed in two weeks with all the new gear and industry standard software available.
- Song writing Competition
This year we will have the inauguration of an annual song writing competition. Anyone in Secondary School may submit a song and students may work alone or in bands to create their songs. The winning song will be released at the VET Showcase evening in Term 3 and the winner will win a prize of a professional mix for their song, as well as a professional music video.
Unplugged
- Year 7 and 8 students who play an instrument, have regular tuition and want to develop their music skills are welcome to join the Advanced Music class. Application forms are available from the Music Office.
- Students in Years 7-12 who play an orchestral instrument are invited to join the Secondary Orchestra. This group will rehearse on a Wednesday before school. Sign up sheets are outside the Music Office.
- Any students who play either flute or clarinet may join the new woodwind ensemble. This ensemble will run on a Tuesday before school.
Plugged In
This year we are starting our very own School of Rock: a band program available to anyone who plays a contemporary instrument. There will be numerous bands running, encompassing a variety of genres, ranging from metal to electronic to pop. Sign up sheets will be outside the Music Office. To participate in the electronic band please sign up for an audition.
There is a lot happening in Music and there are very exciting times ahead!
Do not forget - if you want to start learning an instrument, the application form is on the College website in the Music Brochure.
I look forward to a fabulous year of music making ahead!
