James Journal

I wish to extend a warm welcome to all new and returning students to James House, with a special friendly welcome to all Year 7 students! Despite the unexpected, delayed start to the new school year, I do hope that you have had an exciting start and are beginning to find your feet at the College. Along with the Year 7 students, I also want to extend a welcome to Nathan (Year 10). I hope that you enjoy your journey at LJBC!

The beginning of a new year is always exciting and filled with the promise of a fresh start and an opportunity to reach our set goals. We kicked the year off with a team-building event at The Maze for our Student Council Induction Day.  After completing various activities and sharing lunch together, students were able to cool down under the water slides. It is always a pleasurable way to start the new year, sharing laughs and ideas. It is my privilege to introduce the James 2021 Student Council, under the enthusiastic and positive leadership of our House Captains:

House Captains: Hukambir & Holly

Year 11: Jacques & Tayla

Year 10: Jared & Carrie

Year 9: Sanjeev & Gemma

Year 8: Matthew & Paige

Congratulations also to Rylee on her election as Music Captain. The Year 7 Student Council elections will take place later this term and I encourage all Year 7’s who are interested in leadership-positions, to consider applying for the Student Council.

With a fresh start to the year, I am looking forward seeing all the James students participate in the academic, sporting and cultural programmes for 2021. There are many wonderful opportunities to get involved in and I encourage each student to get connected to life at the College, adopting a ‘give-it-a-go’ attitude. Parents, please encourage your children to participate in these programmes as this provides them with valuable life skills such as resilience, accountability, time management, respect and communication.

May 2021 be a great and blessed year for James House and let’s continue to look at life through a lens of love and solidarity! Let us make this year a year of finding fulfillment, of joy, peace and purpose.

Anmar van der Westhuizen
