Purple Patch

Well it may not have been the start to the year we expected but it is great to be back and to see our students getting into the swing of things. There has been a really positive vibe around the College and I want to wish all Batavians a warm welcome, especially Ruby (Year 11) who has joined our community this year.
Prior to the start of classes I had the pleasure of joining our Student Council for a day of fun and team-building at Outback Splash. Batavia has a wonderful team of student leaders and I am excited to see their enthusiasm and ideas for the year ahead. After completing a variety of challenges and puzzles and sharing lunch together, it was great to cool down and get our adrenaline pumping on the waterslides.
The Batavia House Council for 2021 is:
House Captains: Matthew and Annelise
Chaplaincy Captains: Lunae and Joseph
Drama Captain: Jake
Year 11: Ethan and Kate
Year 10: Thomas and Olivia
Year 9: Jordanand Elizabeth
Year 8: Sonny and Hannah
An election will be held to decide the Year 7 councillors later in the term.
I want to wish a special welcome to our Year 7 students; I am enjoying getting to know you and am looking forward to spending some time with you on camp next week at Serpentine. There are plenty of things coming up this term - Batavia is again planning to join with Arcadia House in supporting the Starlight Foundation as our major charity event this year. Keep an eye out for announcements and look for ways to get involved in helping this worthy cause.
I want to encourage you all to get involved in College life as much as possible. The restrictions we have faced in the last 12 months has really brought home how valuable all the extra-curricular activities we have here at LJBC are. The Swimming Carnival is coming up – take the opportunity, do your best and lets get Batavia on the top of the podium! Sign up for a sport, a club or Cadets and get out there and make 2021 your best year yet.
I wish you all an awesome 2021 and look forward to journeying with you this year.
Trust in the Lord with all your heart and lean not on your own understanding; in all your ways submit to him, and he will direct your paths. Proverbs 3:5-6
