Our Year 8 Visual Arts students were pleasantly surprised when they arrived to class on Thursday 18 February to find their class filled with boobook owls and wedge tailed eagles. So often when drawing in class, we are using books and photographic sources to reference images, however there is nothing that can substitute drawing from life. The Birds of Prey visit aimed to inspire and improve drawing and observational skills in our Year 8s as they begin to create woodblock prints inspired by Japanese design. We were blessed to have the opportunity to bring the topic to life with a visit from the Western Australia’s Bird of Prey group, who brought in over 7 birds which included different breeds of raptors such as owls, hawks, falcons and eagles.
