French Incursion

On Monday 26 July, the Year 7s and the Year 8s informative French incursion “Why languages? Why continue French in Year 9?” took place just before 2022 subjects selections.
Dr Ronnie Gladden (from Ohio) connected virtually with our LJBC community and presented an interactive talk on WLM – Why Languages Matter.
He passionately informed students about the value and urgency for sustained language study in today’s world especially after Year 8.
The speaking session provided salient quotes, anecdotes and reference to data underscoring the relevance and importance of sustaining foreign language studies – particularly with regard to Year 7s entering Year 8 and undeniably to the Year 8 cohort. All throughout the talk, it was amazing to see how LJBC students connected with our guest speaker and were happily challenged with critical and creative questions asked by Dr Ronnie. Their individual answers highlighted their understanding on why learning and continuing to learn a foreign language is crucial and so beneficial in their professional and personal life.
Un grand merci to our students for participating so actively and making LJBC proud to have students who are eager to learn and grow with the guidance of their teachers.
Un grand merci also to our IT specialist Mr Orlowski for making the day a success thanks to his amazing IT skills and to our new French teacher’s assistance Madame Azariadis.
In the second half of the day, there was a surprise for our students. An indoor picnic with freshly made croissants to devour whilst learning about the intriguing history of the 'French' croissant.
We concluded our day by collecting feedback on what each student will take with them from their French Incursion Day.
Our thanks for your ongoing support in the value of languages.
Bien cordialement,
Madame Cobanlar and Madame Azariadis
