Future Problem Solving National Competition

Our Future Problem Solving students did exceptionally well this year. Three of our teams were selected to represent Western Australia and the College at the Future Problem Solving National competition, held via an online platform due to travel restrictions.

For the actual competition, teams received a hypothetical, futuristic scenario on the topic of Personalised Medicine. They had to use their research to identify the challenges with personalised medicine programs, generate solutions and then develop an action plan to target an important problem related to these programs in Australia. Students were graded on their correct application of the Future Problem-Solving process, their use of cited research and their creative originality. After completing the six-step process in two hours, students then immediately began to work on a second competition called ‘Presentation of Action Plan’ in which they illustrated their final solution by preparing and performing a skit.

Two of our teams placed in the top 6 of the ‘Presentation of the Action Plan’ competition and our Year 11 team’s presentation was selected as Fan Favourite by all the other participants. We are incredibly proud of them for reaching this stage of the competitive program with their high level of global and futuristic thinking.

Our students who qualified for the Nationals were:

Year 10: Chelsea, Arwen, Caitlyn, Nicolette, Grace, Chad, Kaelyn and Holly.

Year 11: Esther, Emily, Isabel and Taya.
