ACC Inclusive Futsal Competition

Captain’s write Up.

Students from LJBC’s Learning Enhancement program competed in the ACC Inclusive Futsal Competition on Friday 5 August at Lords Indoor Centre.

We played against many formidable opponents, some being Prendiville, Mater Dei, Ursula Frayne, Lumen Christi and many others. Everyone showed such great sportsmanship and played very well and respectfully. Everyone had a great team spirit going in, definitely a lot of us were nervous but we were also excited and eager to do it. Everyone played fairly and treated all players equally, no matter the capabilities or limitations that person may have had.

The Stephen Michael Foundation organised the event. Thank you to them for making the day possible. This Foundation utilises sports-based wellbeing, education, leadership, training and employment programs to support children and young people to become valued members of their community regardless of their cultural background, gender or social circumstance.

Our team manager and Year 9 Sport Delegate Lois was incredible! Lois sorted out all the positions to where everyone would play, all the strategies and did an amazing job at leading the team. Year 9 Sport Delegate James who also played, helped a lot and was a great team player who displayed amazing skills and helped us play through the games, also playing a game as goalie. He displayed great sportsmanship as well. We could not have done it without Lois and James, they did a great job helping us and it was lovely to have them.

Ms Baker, Mr Clift and Mrs Ferreira also made this day possible by organising the team and taking time out of their day to help everyone, having an after-school training session, having meetings, where to be, when to be there and a planner to help us. So, a massive thank you to them and all the help they have given us.

Thank you to all the teams who came out that day and tried their hardest, as everyone played well, was really respectful, had great team spirit and showed great sportsman-like conduct. Overall, just awesome people who also helped make the day possible, so thank you to them.

Most of all I want to thank the whole team for coming out, trying their hardest, winning, having a great team spirit, being kind and respectful, and having fun. I would not have had that day go any differently. I enjoyed this program so much and I cannot wait to do it again next year. It was a wonderful day, and I am glad I got to be the captain of that amazing team. I loved being part of the team and playing with them. The day will always go with me, reminding me that it’s always better to be surrounded by the people you care for; whether you win or lose.

Thank you to everyone who participated and thank you for letting me be captain, it was a huge honour.
