Primary Chess Championships

Chess has recently become a very popular sport with many participants. LJBC Primary Chess Team competed in two of the four regional championships. They are to be congratulated for the great results. Approximately 25 schools competed in each regional championship. Our team qualified as one of the top schools for the State Championships. This month eight schools competed against each other over seven matches at Perth Modern College for the State Championship honours. The highlights for the LJBC team included receiving two of only eight individual merit awards. Eric (current U10 and U12 state champion) on the Captain’s table had 4 wins 2 draws 1 loss and Kevin had 6 wins and 1 loss on his respective table. Our team also drew 2-2 in its match against the eventual second placed team, who would be champions if they had defeated us in this round. The LJBC team finished a respectable 5th against the best players and teams in the state. A big thank you to Eric, William, Xander, Kevin and Amy who gave up 3 days of their own time including two Sundays to achieve these great results. We should be very proud of their dedication to chess development and in representing our school with distinction.
