Michael is a Year 11 Student at Lake Joondalup Baptist College. He is completing a Certificate II in Cookery with a School-Based Traineeship at Iluka Tavern.

This course is designed to provide students with a solid foundation in culinary skills and knowledge, including food safety and hygiene, knife skills, recipe development, and menu planning. It is a crucial first step for anyone interested in pursuing a career in the hospitality industry.

The course has been both challenging and rewarding for Michael. He has had the opportunity to learn from experienced chefs and to work in a real-life kitchen environment. He has also learned to work under pressure and to manage his time effectively, which are essential skills for any cook.

Michael said that he is really enjoying the experience and training that he is gaining, learning new and different styles of cooking. As he already had a part time job at Iluka Tavern it is a bonus to get paid to complete a Traineeship! Michael is also putting the skills he is learning to use by helping at home with cooking from time to time.
