We were so pleased to be able to run the Year 6 Sydney Canberra Tour after a four year hiatus. Eleven staff and 73 students enjoyed a week of fun, learning and adventure and the students represented LJBC so well. We had many presenters (and even security guards) comment on how well the students behaved, engaged and held themselves. Our staff were so proud of them.
Over the week, some of the places we visited were Taronga Zoo, The Rocks, the Australian War Memorial, Parliament House, Museum of Australian Democracy, High Court and Corin Forest for snow play.
The Australian Government recognises the importance of all young Australians being able to visit the national capital as part of their Civics and Citizenship education. To assist families in meeting the cost of the excursion the Australian Government contributed funding of $510 per student under the Parliament and Civics Education Rebate program towards those costs. The rebate is paid directly to the school upon completion of the excursion. We are grateful to the Australian Government for their generosity.
We’re already looking forward to 2024.

The Learning Enhancement Centre is incredibly proud of Year 9 debating students Cara, Tayte, Abigail, and Chantal who have maintained their undefeated streak by winning their recent debate about whether or not influencers should post photos of their children. They were even supported by two of their Year 12 Student Mentors who came along to cheer on the team. Congratulations Year 9s!

The Midnite Youth Theatre Excursion
On June 23, the Year 11 and 12 Drama students were given the amazing opportunity to go to Subiaco Arts Centre to watch The Midnite Youth Theatre Company's production of A Midsummer Night’s Dream.
We left school at 12.30pm and made our way to the theatre by bus. We were seated in the first three very centre and front rows, which made the experience all the more special. We were inspired by the performances of the cast, who consisted of students our own ages and they performed this Shakespearean classic extremely well. The play included live music, contemporary costumes and lots of comedy.
The Year 11 ATAR class are going to be performing selected scenes from this script this term, so it was a great insight for them to get a better understanding and be inspired by the modern twists.

Year 10 Drama Incursion
Our Year 10 Drama students were excited to start this term with a visit by actor, Nichola Renton, who taught our students new skills in fighting for the stage. The stage combat training included unarmed combat skills such as illusory slaps, punches, kicks, throwing and holding techniques. Our budding performers got stuck into learning how to strike and defend, honing their most realistic ‘attacks’ on each other. Nichola offered her expertise in acting in Shakespeare plays and had our students act out fight scenes from Macbeth and A Midsummer Night’s Dream.
