Book Week is one of the most popular events in the LJBC Library calendar. It promotes the importance of reading, school libraries and children's literature, giving the students a chance to celebrate all that and more. The theme for 2023 is 'Read, Grow, Inspire'.
Book Week was celebrated at LJBC this week starting with the Kindy students, who had a parade in our Sports centre and an assembly item for the PP to Year 6 students led by the Library Monitors. We hope you find a book that helps you grow and inspires you to do something great.

Primary Senior Choir Shine at OneBigVoice Festival

We are delighted to share the remarkable achievements of our LJBC Primary Senior Choir, who took centre stage at the eagerly anticipated OneBigVoice Festival held at the RAC Arena last Friday.
The OneBigVoice Festival serves as a joyful celebration of music, providing our students with a wonderful platform to cultivate their love for singing and connect with fellow young music enthusiasts. This year's event brought together an impressive assembly of approximately 5,000 students from 100 different schools, all joining their voices in harmony to perform an inspiring repertoire of songs.
Our students not only participated but also made an indelible mark on the festival, reflecting the core values of our school. Abigail, Alice, Makayla, and Elyssa represented our school with distinction, showcasing our school's unique culture of eloquence in public speaking.
Our students' professionalism was heartwarming, evident in their poised conduct and the passion they brought to the stage.
We take pride in the accomplishments of our students, acknowledging that their shining moments on stage were made possible through the support of their families and the LJBC community.

Thank you to our Primary School P&F Community!

We are thrilled to extend our heartfelt gratitude to the wonderful members of the Primary School P&F for their incredible support!
The recent purchase of outdoor tables and a basketball hoop has been a game-changer for many in our Primary community! These new outdoor tables have created additional space where our students can enjoy their lunches, engage in group activities, and play together.
And the addition of an extra basketball hoop has injected an exciting dose of extra physical activity and friendly competition into our recess and lunch breaks.
We extend our sincerest gratitude to each and every parent and friend of LJBC who generously volunteered their time and contributed to this fantastic initiative.
Thank you for investing in our children's education and wellbeing!
Your support has not only provided tangible resources but has also demonstrated to our students the value of community and the importance of giving back. Together, we are creating a nurturing environment that fosters growth and connection for every child at our college.

Our Primary Environment Captains have started a gardening project for the Primary School. The garden will include composting bins, worm farms and raised garden beds to grow vegetables. The students also visited the Year 1 - 3 students today to inform them of the project and how it will benefit our school. The environment captains will also collect green waste from the classes on Tuesdays, providing the worms with the food they need.
A huge thank you to Craig from our maintenance dept who helped organise some soil and equipment for the students.

Year 10 PARTY excursion at Royal Perth Hospital

Recently, a group of Year 10 students were invited to attend Royal Perth Hospital for an excursion. It was part of the PARTY initiative, Preventing Alcohol and Risk-related Trauma in Youth. The groups participated in dynamic and interactive injury prevention activities, including listening to presentations from inspirational survivors, visiting emergency and intensive care wards, working with physio’s and talking with current patients.
The students had a hard-hitting but informational day, increasing their knowledge of risk avoidance and staying safe. Their job now is to cascade that information to their peers and friends at school to help reduce the injuries and deaths on our roads and in our community.

A BIG thank you to every student who auditioned for Matilda Jr! We were overwhelmed by the enthusiasm and talent in the audition room. We had so many sign-ups this year, which made the audition panel’s final decision difficult. Casting has been finalised and will be emailed today at 3.25pm. Congratulations to the auditionees who were cast. Rehearsals will begin in Term 4.
If you were unsuccessful in gaining a role in this production, we encourage you to try again next time. We understand auditioning can be a nerve-wracking experience; each time you try out, you gain more experience and confidence for the future!
Save the Production dates in your calendars: Wednesday 20 March, Thursday 21 March, Friday 22 March and Saturday 23 March.

Director of Drama
Are you an Olympian in the making?

We have managed to secure a visit from the WA institute of Sport (WAIS) to come and search for future Olympians here at LJBC.
A team from WAIS will be in school on Thursday 7 September to test students who think they may have potential in Cycling, Rowing and Kayaking. No previous experience in these activities is required as they are looking for athletes who they can train in these areas and who have the right physiology to enable them to be successful. They have proposed four categories for selection.
Category 1 Natural athletes - these are students who currently have a specific sport of choice with clear ability however, they may have an interest in trying a new sport. Years 7-12
Category 2 Sport-specific features - Rowing, taller and bigger athletes with a large potential to do work. Cycling – explosive with strong legs (track) or solid cross-country runner (road/track). Canoe Sprint – powerful and tough with varied body types. Rowing: Years 9,10,11,12 Cycling: Year 7,8,9,10 Canoe Sprint: 8,9,10
Category 3 Athletes in the shadows who have yet to show huge potential in any specific sport but may demonstrate a burning determination which has been noticed in other domains at school such as Drama, English, Sciences, etc. Years 7-12
Category 4 Students with potential due to their willingness to learn and grow. Years 7-12
The students will be tested by the WAIS staff on the WAIS state-of-the-art testing equipment here at school and for those who are successful, follow-up sessions will be at the WAIS headquarters.
If you feel you would like to be considered for this prestigious opportunity please direct message or email - ben.allsop@ljbc.wa.edu.au
Who knows, the next Olympian could be you!

2017 LJBC Graduate Megan Rawlings recently visited South Africa to work on an inspiring project to save the Northern White Rhino.
The new sanctuary Megan visited cares for orphaned baby Rhinos, teaching her the vital role of human intervention. She witnessed the intense stages of care these Rhinos need to return to the wild, from round-the-clock nursing, IVF procedures on animals, learning what an emotionally charged animal needs to survive and education on poaching and conservation work. This fantastic experience also allows Megan to work alongside 5 different vets and the hours worked contribute towards her Prac hours.
Megan is raising awareness and funds at Murdoch University and is collaborating with them to create a program for students to learn about conservation, animal care, and anti-poaching efforts. This opportunity benefits the sanctuary in many ways.
Megan is studying Veterinary Medicine and will graduate as a Vet in 2024.
Congratulations Megan, it’s truly inspiring to see your passion for conservation and dedication to making a difference. Keep up the fantastic work!

Tallon - Certificate II in Automotive
Meet Tallon, a determined and driven Year 12 student at LJBC who is on his way to completing a Certificate II in Automotive. For many students, juggling school, social life and personal interests can be a daunting task, but Tallon has proven that passion and commitment can drive one’s dreams to fruition.
Tallon enrolled in the Certificate II Automotive program at MTA WA, Automotive Institute of Technology Inc through CareerLink, attending one day a week. The two-year vocational course covers a wide range of automotive skills, including vehicle servicing, diagnostics and repairs. Tallon is doing his practical Work Placement at KTEC Performance where his Workplace Supervisor comments "Tallon’s dedication and enthusiasm for the automotive industry are truly exceptional. He has a great ability to take instructions, is very reliable and works well with his hands."
Tallon’s journey serves as a reminder that passion, hard work, and a drive to excel can lead to endless possibilities. I have no doubt that he’ll continue to make a significant impact in the automotive world.
