This week, future Year 7s from across the northern suburbs visited Lake Joondalup Baptist College to experience a morning of food, learning and fun, helping them start the transition from Primary School to High School. Starting in our Sports Centre, current Year 6 students from northern Primary Schools explored LJBC’s vibrant community through hands-on activities, fun classes and social time, as well as meeting some of their future classmates and teachers. It was a busy but fun morning, giving our incoming students a real-world taste of what lies ahead in 2025. Interested in joining us for 2025? Contact our enrolments team on 9300 7444

Did you know that learning a musical instrument makes your brain grow REALLY big! Playing a musical instrument gets EVERY area of the brain working all at once. More than ANYthing else you can do at school.
It’s been an exciting week for our Year 2 String Concert Band, who performed for the first time in front of an audience. With the String band being formed just this term in primary music, the young musicians showcased their hard work with four beautiful pieces conducted by their tutor, Miss Santos. Supported by enthusiastic teachers, family and friends, the students clearly enjoyed their newfound love of the cello and violin. Well done everyone!

The sun always seems to shine so brightly when our Early Learning Centre (ELC) Wet Carnival is on! Our youngest students kicked off the day with running races before diving into a range of water games. The foam pit, water slide, dunk tank, water pistol challenge and so many other activities kept everyone happily soaked. As usual, the event was well supported by the cheers and laughter of family and friends. Thank you for the wonderful support from our teachers, staff and student volunteers.

This week, our Year 4 Concert Band took to the stage for their first concert, sharing their hard work and musical skills with parents, friends and LJBC staff. They performed a series of pieces they had been rehearsing. It was clear just how much they’ve grown musically since they first picked up their instruments. As an added treat, parents and students enjoyed a professional performance by the student’s talented tutors. Thank you to our dedicated LJBC staff and tutors for all their guidance and support in making this performance a success!
Term 4 has been such a busy time for our Aspire students, a number of whom have been involved in multiple competitions which challenge their problem solving and teamwork skills.
Future Problem Solving National Finals

We were thrilled to hear that four of our Future Problem Solving teams this year qualified for the National FPS Finals. This honour is provided only to those students who rank in the top 10% of problem solvers nationally and is a testament to the incredible young minds in the Aspire program. We travelled to Melbourne together and were able to enjoy a few days of sightseeing, including a trip to Adventure Rooms escape rooms, SeaLife, the Science Museum, and Queen Victoria Market. The students also enjoyed walking and catching the tram through the CBD, watching the night lights from the rooftop of our hotel, and getting Starbucks as often as they could!
For the competition, we caught the train out to Carey Baptist Grammar College where the students put their knowledge of the future of autonomous vehicles to the test. By applying a six-step creative problem-solving process, they applied their knowledge to create solutions to complex problems, evaluate those solutions, and turn them into a workable plan of action.
The closing ceremony was full of excitement as we discovered that our Lake Joondalup Baptist College teams had incredible success this year.
Year 8 students Katie, Chloe, Madison, and Lily came 11th nationally out of 320 teams in the middle years division, as well as being ranked first in WA.
Year 11 students Robyn, Sofia, Sean, and Lachlan came 6th nationally in the senior division.
Our Year 10 team, comprised of Abigail, Cara, Tayte, and Chantal, however, blew the competition away and won the entire competition, beating out 240 teams across the country and winning the title for WA for the first time in more than 10 years.
The Year 10 students have now been invited to represent Australia at the Future Problem Solving Australia World Finals at the University of Indiana in June, 2025. We are so proud of all of our teams who proved that LJBC is a school full of amazing young minds!
Game Changer Awards
It was exciting to see 61 students from Years 4-10 take on the challenge of the Game Changer Awards, a competition that encourages young innovators to develop creative solutions to real-world problems determined in the United Nations’ Sustainable Development Goals. Through their involvement, students gained experience in design thinking, problem-solving, teamwork, and project management, as well as the ability to present their ideas effectively. It was a wonderful day of fun, creativity, and problem-solving as the students tackled a diverse range of issues, showcasing their ingenuity and passion for making a positive impact. The students were judged on their understanding of their chosen problem, the STEM principles they used to develop their solution, and their ability to explain the benefits of their solution to a panel of judges.
Year 8 students Katie, Chloe, Madison, and Lily took home 1st place in the category, 'Best Use of STEM' for their project, TraffikGuard, a jail phone that uses artificial intelligence to record phone calls and detect when prison inmates are discussing human trafficking so that the police can prevent such crimes from occurring.
Year 10 students Linden, Lucas, and Tyler also secured a 1st place win. They took home the prize for the category 'Best Presentation' with their pitch about their project Ocean Aura, a submarine designed to reduce ocean acidification.
Congratulations to all of our students on their hard work and creativity as they solved incredibly challenging social, environmental, and economic challenges!

Drama: So You Wanna Be A Cheerleader?

This semester during Belong, a keen group of students worked together to rehearse So You Wanna Be A Cheerleader? This one act play finds current cheerleaders Britney, Britnee, Brittany and Kevin struggling though auditions to find a suitable fifth member of their cheerleading team. Our dedicated students worked hard to prepare this play with a limited number of rehearsals and even gave some of their lunch times to make sure it was ready!
During last weeks Belong session, the students performed to an invited audience made up of friends, family and a few staff. The cast are to be commended on their professionalism, comedic timing and team work.

Several of our vocal students took centre stage last week at the main hall of the historic Perth Town Hall, showcasing their vocal prowess by singing songs from musicals Gypsy, West Side Story, Parade, You're A Good Man, Charlie Brown and Hairspray.
This performance opportunity promotes our students' engagement with the creative arts and elevates their performance skills.
The event titled 'I Can Hear the Bells' has been organised by Jumeirah Music Centre Perth and is proudly supported by a Venue Support Grant from the City of Perth.
Congratulations to Mia, Liliana, Amiya and Jayel!
I am also happy to announce that Liliana won second place in the South Suburban Music Society Eisteddfod. She entered the Vocal Music Theatre competition for 10 and under.
Well done Liliana!

Music Mentor Program
On 24 November, the Year 2 Students were treated to a fabulous performance by one of our Year 9 Music Mentors, Emily. Emily performed some Disney tunes for them and the students enjoyed guessing which movie they came from. They also learnt about the Woodwind Family, how a sound is produced on the flute and its role in the Orchestra. The morning concluded with a flute duet performance of Ode to Joy by Emily and her Flute Tutor, Mrs Shinkfield, followed by question time. The students were very engaged, and we are so proud of Emily for being such an inspiration for the next generation of musicians! We look forward to seeing Emily showcase more of her musical talents and mentoring ability at the end of the year Music Mentor Concert on November 20.

Years 8 and 9 Production – Hit The Road Jack

In Term 3, we held auditions for Year 8 and 9s for a Christmas-themed production called Hit The Road Jack. The show follows Jack, a detective who is given a special case, to find out the meaning of life. Along the way, he meets a range of characters who all give him clues. But will he make the deadline? Will he answer the truth? Or just what his client wants to hear?
This term, the wonderful cast has been working hard on learning their lines, staging, and even practising their dance moves, ready to perform to the Lower Primary classes on Wednesday 27 November.
