Primary Inter House Cross Country

Our Primary Inter House Cross Country is always a great event! As well as racing in beautiful sunny conditions, it was wonderful to witness students encouraging each other and showing great sportsmanship throughout the event.
Well done to all the competitors on the day!
We will be cheering on the top 6 girls and boys from each age group at the Inter School event scheduled for Friday 23 June at Mawson Park Hillarys.

There are so many benefits to an active P&F, especially our P&F, which we are all members of, as part of our wonderful LJBC community.
Research confirms that belonging to your children’s P&F is beneficial to the children’s learning outcomes, as well as their social well-being. We model positive connections, community and caring, enhancing our relationships with our children, our faculty and our families.
And it’s good for you too! Volunteering promotes friendships, sharing, belonging, connecting…
Our Primary Playdates have been fantastic. We’ve had great weather, lovely volunteers, beautiful families and lots of fun!
In Term 3, we have another fun Primary Playdate, the Fathers Day Stall and we are excited to be hosting the sausage sizzle at the Primary Athletics Carnival, as well as our regular meetings.
We encourage a fun, supportive, uplifting atmosphere, making friends, sharing information and being involved! Please join us at a meeting if you can, or message/whatsapp/call Nicole Harrison, your 2023 P&F Coordinator on 0407 245 264, or catch me on campus!
Learning Enhancement Centre News

The Learning Enhancement Centre is thrilled to announce that after three exciting days at the da Vinci Decathlon at UWA this week, the LJBC teams came away with fantastic results.
The da Vinci Decathlon invites the top 8 students of each year group from the most academically competitive schools in WA to compete in ten different disciplines (English, Maths, Science, Art/Poetry, Engineering, Ideation, Drama, Cartography, Legacy (General Knowledge, and Codebreaking). This year, we took 40 academically gifted students from Years 6-10 to the competition.
Amongst some other great results, our students scored first place in Art and Poetry, first place in Legacy, first place in Cartography, fourth place in Mathematics, fourth place in English, and fourth place in Science.
We are looking forward to 2024 when we will be inviting the top academic performers from Year 5 to Year 10 to compete. Congratulations to the wonderful students involved in the competition this year!

Niamh has enrolled in a Certificate III in Health Services Assistance, through CareerLink which is a nationally recognised qualification that provides students with the skills and knowledge needed to work as an assistant in a healthcare setting. This course focuses on a range of topics such as infection control, communication skills, basic emergency response and patient care.
During her course, Niamh has had the opportunity to work alongside experienced healthcare professionals and gain practical skills in a real healthcare setting. She has also had the chance to develop her communication skills, which are essential in any healthcare setting. Niamh finds it fulfilling to be able to communicate with patients, understand their needs, and provide them with the appropriate care.

For National Volunteer Week, Cadets had the privilege of hosting the crew of volunteers who man the Incident Control Vehicle (ICV). Cadets were educated on how major incidents are handled ensuring the safety of multiple crews during a major incident. The depth of detail required is immense which includes not only names and numbers but also dietary requirements to ensure members on the coal face are fed and watered and the responders also return home safely.
After an overview, the ICV was put into action with our simulated missing person scenario. Cadets were manning the radios, giving instructions to and coordinating the search parties on what quadrants needed to be searched. Other Cadets were completing the ‘T-Cards’, monitoring who was out on the search and how long they were out for. Yet another group were examining maps of the area giving guidance to what areas should be searched and recording where searches have been completed.
We would like to extend our appreciation to the ICV crew for giving up their valuable time.
Also, a quick reminder that the RSVP cut-off for our afternoon at Treetops Adventure, Yanchep is 9 June.
If you have any queries relating to the Cadet program, please contact Mrs Jenny Pontarelli on 9300 744 or via email Jenny.Pontarelli@ljbc.wa.edu.au.

This term in Chaplaincy, we have been running the CHIC program for girls. CHIC stands for ‘Choices, Hope, Identity and Connections’. Some of the topics we have covered so far have been about Culture, Identity & Self-Esteem. Chaplaincy Captains and Delegates have been teaming up to cover these topics through discussion and activities with our Chaplains. We always have delicious snacks provided by Mrs Jackson and her hospitality students.
CHIC will run for the rest of the term in Room 12 at lunchtime on Tuesdays.
All girls are warmly invited to join us.
