Term 4 is well and truly underway! For our Year 12 students, the beginning of Term 4 marked the limited time remaining in their school journey, and yet it encompassed so much. Following their Trial exams for those sitting ATAR exams, Year 12 students returned to school for their last few days to make their last ‘in class’ preparations towards final exams, and to enjoy our traditional Valedictory celebrations, culminating with their Graduation on Friday 22 October, at which families, friends and staff congratulated and celebrated with students as they completed their school journey. A highlight of the week was the Valedictory assembly which ended with the ‘Guard of Honour’ formed by our Primary students and Lower secondary students who made signs and cheered the Year 12s as they left school grounds for the last time. We are extremely proud of our Year 12 students, and thank them for their contribution and impact on the College. We look forward to following their progress with a keen interest. A reminder that ATAR exams begin on 15 November.
Our remaining Secondary students continue to be engaged in the completion of course work, and preparation towards end of year exams. LJBC employs a continuous reporting strategy with exams providing one of many opportunities to consolidate their learning. Among the many activities this term, the Year 10 students participated in a Wellbeing Day on Wednesday, and Year 11 students began preparation for their end of year exams. Year 9s are preparing for their week-long camp in November. Rehearsals for the College Production of High School Musical are well underway and we look forward to this early next year.
For those parents wishing to become more involved or simply connect with other parents, the College has two parent representative groups, the Primary Parents & Friends (P&F) and the Parents and Collegians Auxiliary (PCA). Families may like to consider connecting with either of these two groups. For more information please email:
P&F@ljbc.wa.edu.au PCA@ljbc.wa.edu.au
Our Primary students are also busy completing class work and activities, and our Year 6 students are preparing for their graduation from Primary school and transition to Year 7 in our Secondary school in 2022. A Student Experience Morning will be held for all Year 6 students on Wednesday 10 November, during which LJBC year 6s will meet their peers from other schools, as well as some of the staff who will be supporting them as they commence their secondary school journey in 2022.
The College Website has been updated, with enhancements for mobile phone users as well as improvements for browser support, use of forms, photo quality and speed of video. There will be continued improvements to the website throughout the remainder of the year.
Our staff are highly dedicated, committed professionals. On the first day of each term, the day before students return, all staff use the opportunity to meet together, commencing the day with a time of worship, followed by professional learning and preparation time. This term, our day included a presentation from McCrindle Research of their 2020 report entitled The Future of Education, which summarises the key trends affecting the education sector, to equip school leaders and teachers for strategic decision making. The purpose of the research was to:
- Provide a greater understanding of the changing generational needs of students within the classroom
- Explore the changing wellbeing and community within schools
- Give insight into sentiment around post-school pathways
- Understand educators experience of working in the education sector and future insight
We look forward to continuing to reimagine the future of learning and respond to changes in the needs of the community with a future focus while maintaining our traditions and purpose.
World Teachers’ Day
We can all recall a teacher or school staff member that impacted our lives in a positive way. Established by the United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organisation (UNESCO) in 1994 to recognise the role of teachers in society Australia, celebrates World Teachers’ Day today, 29 October 2021.
Teachers and other school staff (with support from parents and carers) have ensured education continues across the country this year, despite major challenges. It has reinforced the significant role teachers and school staff play in the lives of children and students, their families, and communities.
With a busy term ahead of us, our hope and prayer is that each of our students will enjoy and remain focused for the last term of their 2021 school year, striving to continue to do their best, be kind to one another, and to enjoy the acknowledgement and celebrations of their achievements. We look forward to the end of year celebrations and traditions including the much-anticipated Primary Christmas concert and Awards evenings.
God Bless

Last Friday, LJBC Primary students amplified the ‘fun’ in ‘fundraising’ with a Slime Fun Run and Crazy Hair Day. Enriched with a community, family-fun feel, we ran, dodged, and got splodged for a good cause. All funds raised will go towards upgrading our Primary playground equipment. Thank you to everyone who participated, our wonderful staff for coordinating the day and our P&F (Parents & Friends Association) for hosting the event.
World Teachers Day (Australia) gives us an opportunity to acknowledge the amazing staff that serve the community of LJBC! In Primary, we celebrated our wonderful staff with ‘room service’! They were able to choose from a menu selection and the Primary Leadership served them with their classes in support, to cheer them on for all their love, care and efforts. The theme this year for World Teachers Day is ‘Bright Future’ and we had fun dressing up in bright sunglasses for the occasion!
Some of our students shared their appreciation for their teachers:
“I love my teacher because she is loving, kind and makes school fun.”
“My teacher makes me feel like I belong.”
“I like my teacher because he has a good sense of humour and makes us laugh.”
“My teacher is so kind and caring. She knows us and listens to every word we say. I love my teacher.”
“I like my teacher because she’s pretty and I like her nails.”
“I love that my teacher reads books to us.”
"I like my teacher because he does his best to make school fun. He is very funny and entertaining all the time. He is nice, kind and patient.”
“My teacher is kind and looks amazing with her hair down.”

Did you hear about our Lap-A-Thon? Our primary students ran laps to raise money for House of Hope – Africa, a charity helping families overcome the poverty cycle. Through the process, we discovered the joy in giving, how impactful it is to have a generous heart, and how special it is to share what we have, even when it's hard to do so. And of course, we learnt a little something about persistence when it came to the running part.
Together, our dedicated students raised $11,593.50 — an amazing result going to a very worthy cause! Well done and thank you to all of our primary students, their families and our wonderful LJBC staff.

Congratulations to our Primary Boys Football Academy team who won the State Championship on Friday and lifted the SSWA Stan Lazaridis Cup. The team went undefeated in the tournament involving the winners of the Southern, Eastern and Peel regions. After a comfortable win in the quarter finals, a disciplined, hard-working team performance in the semi-final resulted in a 1-0 win against South Coast Baptist College. The final was played between LJBC and Rosalie PS in an exciting contest: The team showed great character to come from behind in the game to win 4-3 and become State Champions for 2021. The coaches were delighted with the intensity, commitment, and discipline of each individual player in performing their role for the team. A fantastic achievement, well done boys!

Wellbeing is strongly linked to happiness and life satisfaction. As students move towards their final years of studies, it is important that they realise the value of personal wellbeing in helping them to flourish and reach their full potential. On Wednesday, the Year 10s enjoyed filling their toolbox with learning new skills and being active. Students partook in African Drumming and Stretch & Flex, feeling simultaneously relaxed and energised afterwards. They also had fun with their peers participating in a variety of sports, games and laser tag.

Future Problem Solving National Competition
Our Future Problem Solving students did exceptionally well this year. Three of our teams were selected to represent Western Australia and the College at the Future Problem Solving National competition, held via an online platform due to travel restrictions.
For the actual competition, teams received a hypothetical, futuristic scenario on the topic of Personalised Medicine. They had to use their research to identify the challenges with personalised medicine programs, generate solutions and then develop an action plan to target an important problem related to these programs in Australia. Students were graded on their correct application of the Future Problem-Solving process, their use of cited research and their creative originality. After completing the six-step process in two hours, students then immediately began to work on a second competition called ‘Presentation of Action Plan’ in which they illustrated their final solution by preparing and performing a skit.
Two of our teams placed in the top 6 of the ‘Presentation of the Action Plan’ competition and our Year 11 team’s presentation was selected as Fan Favourite by all the other participants. We are incredibly proud of them for reaching this stage of the competitive program with their high level of global and futuristic thinking.
Our students who qualified for the Nationals were:
Year 10: Chelsea, Arwen, Caitlyn, Nicolette, Grace, Chad, Kaelyn and Holly.
Year 11: Esther, Emily, Isabel and Taya.

Recently we had a presenter who brought Kura the paramedic bear to introduce basic first aid concepts in a fun way. The students learnt how to identify an emergency, what number to call in an emergency (which state they are calling from – WA) and to understand the role of who can help in an emergency. The students participated in this half-hour of hands-on learning which was an introduction to what are learning in class.

PCA Breakfast Networking Event

We recently hosted a Breakfast Networking Event, organised in partnership with our PCA committee, to which we invited students from years 10-12, their parents, Collegians, and current staff.
Guest speaker and Collegian, Amber Merritt (Class of 2010) inspired us by sharing how she learnt to ‘combine’ her training schedule as an elite athlete (Wheelchair Basketball) with her school life and studies, and about her experience as a Para Olympian at 2 Olympic Games, including Tokyo.
Students, staff, and parents learnt the art of ‘speed line-networking’, and our Year 11 Hospitality Students greeted guests, served breakfast & coffee and learnt some useful skills regarding event organisation under the direction of teacher, Mrs Nicole Jackson.
If you would like to connect with our PCA, learn more about their purpose, and how they work with the College to support opportunities for students, parents and Collegians, please email: PCA@ljbc.wa.edu.au.
