It was a beautiful sunny and fun-filled afternoon for our youngest students at the College, as they enjoyed their annual ELC Wet Carnival! Our Kindergarten and Pre Primary students had a fabulous time sliding down giant water slides, splashing through paddle pools and racing through water games and activities! A huge thank you to Mrs Coulson and some of our excellent Year 6 student helpers for organising a jam-packed afternoon of fun. Peals of laughter were heard from our College Eastern Oval as our young students and their families made happy memories together. What a fabulous afternoon it was!

Ten LJBC students recently competed in the Ethics Olympiad, a prestigious competition where students discuss the ethics behind a range of case studies. The topics included some big issues like the importance of the environment versus the economy, the ethics of lying, and the dangers of gender stereotyping. We had two teams participating, competing with schools from all around WA, Singapore, and Hong Kong.
LJBC did incredibly well in this competition. Our Year 9 team received impeccable feedback from the judges against some really competitive teams and our year 7/8 team came third overall, receiving bronze medals for their hard work. They also received an honourable mention from the judges for their insights.
We are so proud of these students.

Year 6 Girls Chaplaincy Transition Session

All Year 6 Girls attended a fun and informative session in the Secondary Chaplaincy Office, over two sessions. We discussed the transition to Year 7, as well as practical tips on how to make new friends. A current Year 7 student attended the session to share some of her highlights of Year 7 and some advice. With the assistance of the Year 6 female teachers, we made some beautiful hair bows together, and finished the session with a donut or muffin. It was a lovely time to meet our new students, and I look forward to see their smiling faces in the new year.

On Thursday 4 November, the Year 9 Drama classes performed two short comedies, So You Wanna Be A Cheerleader by M.G. Davidson and Good Cop, Bad Cop by Ian McWethy. As part of this production, the students worked to apply voice and movement techniques taught in class to their individual characters as well as production roles behind the scenes.
The students really enjoyed workshopping and developing the characters. Adding the technical elements of lighting and sound helped bring the production to life, together with adding in food props. It's amazing how real food on stage creates such a buzz amongst the cast! Banana bread anyone? Well done to the Year 9 students for pulling it all together, supporting each other through the rehearsal process and entertaining the audience!
“This was a great experience getting each of us outside of our comfort zone to work together.” Year 9 Drama student
We wish them all the best as they finish out the year and look forward to seeing them further develop their skills in Year 10.

Year 8 Drama – Children’s Theatre

Whatever happened to those four and twenty blackbirds who were baked in a pie? Did the tortoise really beat the hare? On Monday 15 November, the Year 8 Drama classes answered these questions (and more!) for two of the Primary School classes in Founders Hall. In small groups, students workshopped, rehearsed and presented a short play based on various nursery rhymes.
Applying voice and movement techniques to enhance their characterisation, students also incorporated costumes, props and music into their performance, which helped to transport the audience to the make believe world of each play. Well done to the Year 8 students for working together to put on an entertaining showcase.

Congratulations to Chanell in Year 10 for being accepted into the Western Australian Academy of Performing Arts for Ballet in 2022. Chanell has participated in various dance events over her years at the College. She used her talent to great effect in the 2020 College Production of The Little Mermaid and she was a very deserving winner of the College’s 'So You Think You Can Dance' competition in 2020. We will miss Chanell and wish her all the best for her future studies.

It feels like we only just welcomed them to Kindy - and now our wonderful Year 6 students are graduating! To all our students, congratulations on completing this momentous milestone; you've worked exceptionally hard all year in the lead up to Secondary School, and we couldn't be more proud of you!
The transition from Primary to Secondary School is a significant time filled with a mixture of emotions. It is, perhaps, the first big life transition, but one that we will be there to support you through at every stage. We loved honouring each of you and celebrating together at the Year 6 Graduation Ceremony and Dinner.
Finally, a big thank you to the Primary teachers and staff for the invaluable input into the lives of these fabulous young people, and for your commitment to their education and wellbeing. You've no doubt had a profound and memorable impact that won't be forgotten.
LJBC Chaplaincy - Destiny Rescue
Throughout the month of December, LJBC has been privileged to host sessions for all Year 10 students through Destiny Rescue as part of our Christian Education program. Darren Reynolds spoke to us about their mission: “to rescue children from sexual exploitation and human trafficking and help them stay free.”
He shared with us some troubling statistics: over 1 million children are exploited by sex trafficking, 70% of children trafficked are from the Asia Pacific region and $99 billion is generated by sex traffickers each year – $11 million every hour. Darren confronted us with the reality of huge efforts in recent times to locate a missing child in Western Australia, and encouraged us to remember that every child in human trafficked situations is valuable and deserves to also be rescued.
In response, we have encouraged Year 10 students to take action via fundraising through a walk (or run!), and are asking people to sponsor them to do this. The link for this worthy cause is below.

We greatly appreciate the time Darren took to educate us on this pertinent global issue.
