It is hard to believe we are into Week 4, already, but this means that a solid focus on academics is happening across all Learning Areas. Students in all year groups are learning across many different areas with both theory and practical class work.
A reminder to both students and parents that the student Learning Management System, SEQTA, is available for both parents and students. This is a valuable tool for all students with their learning, where resources for classes are found and where valuable information such as current marks and feedback from their teaches are found.
Please remember that all subject/course changes must be completed by 25 March. Please make an appointment with Mrs Eyre, Mrs Van Aswegen or Mr Smith to discuss.
We also love to celebrate our students’ successes. This week we awarded Endeavour Awards and Certificates of Excellence from Semester 2, 2021 in Connect classes due to restrictions on College Assemblies under the current COVID plan. I’m excited to inform that we have awarded the following:
Certificates of Excellence: 60
Endeavour Awards: 47
Letters of Merit: 97
Letters of Merit were posted out in the mail last week.

Year 3-6 Art - Joondalup Festival Installation

We are so excited about our Years 3-6 student art being installed as part of 9-piece heart shaped tunnel at Hillarys Boat Harbour for the duration of the Joondalup Festival - Friday 11 March to Saturday 2 April. The Project, hART - My Neighbourhood, designed by artist Sean Adamas, celebrates the features unique to the City of Joondalup, so all of our creative students have crafted individual art works that highlight the beauty of what they see and love in their local environment.
This participative art project showcases the talent and energy of many people in our community so, if you’re able, please visit the installation at your leisure and see if your child can spot their work!
We are so very proud of what our young artists were able to produce.
Warmest regards
Claire Vermeulen & Claire Ramsay – Primary Art Teachers

What sport means for me and my future goals:
Sport is something I cannot live without. It’s something I can just do to escape. I love to move my body and challenge it in many different ways. I love Goal Keeping because it tests my abilities and it uses my whole body. It tests my skills and I can always get better. Netball is just so much fun to play.
Both Sports relate to each other and help to build my skills. In the future my ultimate goal is to play professionally for a Football club in England and represent Australia at the Olympics. I’m going to work so incredibly hard to reach my goal and achieve something really special in my life.

Welcome to Music from the Music Captain
My name is Alan, and I am proud to represent the Music Department as the 2022 Music Captain. I have been at LJBC since Kindy and have participated in College music events such as, the College Productions and Eisteddfods. I started learning the piano at the age of 5 and have further developed my experience playing the trumpet since being involved in the Year 5 Music Scholarship program. As Music Captain, I look forward to further developing the Music Department by encouraging students to participate in the many enriching College Ensembles under the tutelage of Mrs van der Nest.

The start of a new year means Year 7 students entering Secondary School and learning, amongst many other things, about the Secondary Library.
For their Library orientation, students adopted the guise of a Mission Impossible agent and skulked around the library with their co-agent searching for and scanning QR codes, discovering aspects of the library such as the collections, the equipment, the staff and the services on offer.
The students excitedly completed their mission with much vigour and confidence and are now ready to engage in their next mission of being successful Year 7 students.

This month on SchoolTV - Understanding Adolescence
Adolescence is the transitional stage of development that is usually associated with the teenage years. In 2018, the Australian Curriculum Assessment Authority, redefined adolescence as affecting young people aged between 10-24 years. During this time, they experience rapid physical, cognitive and psychosocial growth which affects how teenagers feel, think, make decisions and interact with the world around them.
During adolescence, a child's brain can be considered as being “under-construction”. The rate at which this progresses will vary depending on the individual and also their gender. As a result, some parents may view adolescence as stressful or difficult. However, it does not need to be. Setting boundaries, implementing consistent monitoring and maintaining a strong and loving connection will help families adjust during this time.
It is also an important time to keep the communication lines open through clear and age appropriate conversations. Speak openly about changes that they are experiencing and be conscious of their mental health as many of the conditions people confront in adulthood, can begin to manifest in adolescence.
In this edition of SchoolTV, adult carers can learn how to guide and best support their young person as they transition through adolescence. We hope you take time to reflect on the information offered in this month’s edition, and we always welcome your feedback.
If you do have any concerns about the wellbeing of your child, please contact the school for further information or seek medical or professional help.

It’s been an exciting start to the year for the Chaplaincy Department. Attending the Year 12 Ball was a highlight, seeing every one dressed up and celebrating together was a great start to Year 12.
We have enjoyed getting to know our new Year 7 students; Chaplaincy Captains have been visiting all Year 7 Connect classes to share a devotion and to connect with our new LJBC students. Lots of fun was had at Outback Splash and during our 'get to know you day' activities at Camp Kerem. Steven Wayman (Secondary Chaplain) and myself shared a short parable about the Prodigal son, and the lost coin, emphasising the value of each student to God and to LJBC. We then played some games (re-enacting the prodigal son, and finding the ‘lost coin’) together, with lots of prizes.
Chips and Chat has begun at lunchtime, all Year 7 students are invited to attend in Room 12 – Tuesday for the boys and Thursday for the girls. It has been enjoyable eating chips and chatting about the transition to Secondary College life, forming new friendships.
Students/parents are welcome to connect with the Chaplains via email or phone call if they would like extra support for students at the College.
We are looking forward to a great second half of Term 1!

Kindergarten Enrolment Open Day for 2023/2024 - Wednesday 23 March

Lake Joondalup Baptist College Kindergarten offers a play-based, three full day learning program fostering creativity through self-expression, sensory experiences, music and the arts in our young students. Registering to view the LJBC 2023/2024 Kindergarten Enrolment Online event gives you the opportunity to hear presentations from the College Principal, the Dean of Primary and our Early Childhood staff. There will be a virtual full tour of the Kindergarten department and Nature Play Spaces. Guests will have the opportunity to view the programs in action, which are rich in literacy, language and communication skills that encourage wonder, exploration and guided inquiry. Our Kindergarten centre provides a very caring and nurturing environment that develops in the students an appreciation and love for nature and God’s world, where they can grow and thrive!

Cadets have had a great start to the year with giant water slides and a sausage sizzle on the College Oval for our first introductory afternoon in Week 2. Even the weather played its part with the sun shining making it the perfect afternoon to get wet.
Last week our Cadets were put through their paces at the HBF Arena learning some practical skills around water safety and completing the required swim test for the year. There was also time for a bit of fun in the whirlpool.
To streamline the uniform issuing process new Cadets are encouraged to return their uniform sizing slip to Student Reception, as soon as possible. Uniforms will be distributed once the bond has been received and the Cadet has been checked for size.
To help keep everyone up-to-date, students enrolled in Cadets are entered into an un-timetabled class on SEQTA. A calendar of events is regularly updated and uploaded, together with photos of our activities. Parents and guardians will be advised of upcoming excursions and camps, when they are able to be run, via email through Consent 2 Go, so please keep an eye out for these and respond by the due date.
If you have any queries relating to the Cadet program, please contact Mrs Jenny Pontarelli on 9300 7444 or via email Jenny.Pontarelli@ljbc.wa.edu.au.
